Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop - Glendale

Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop - Glendale

There are a few Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop's located in SoCal, but the newest one that I am aware of is in Glendale. Being alongside with Shake Shack and Philz coffee on Brand, this street is going to be lit with hungry shoppers since there's not much offerings at the Americana. You can park at the structure located at the Americana for 90 minutes free, or you can cross your finger to find parking behind the restaurant (or front). But, there are plenty of parking arrangements in the area that are either free or affordable.

They sell all kinds of beverages like infused water, espressos, and protein shakes like this Acai Berry with acai berry puree, strawberries, blueberries, apple and cranberry juices, banana & pure naked protein (great for on the go).

Build your entree dinner options. Pick a protein and 2 gourmet sides. This is the flat iron steak with baked sweet potato fries with avocado pestp and pomegranate quinoa (they say pomegranate, but it's actually cranberries).

Huevos Rancheros served with over easy eggs, refried black beans, chipotle sauce, pico de gallo, avocado & crisp corn tortilla strips. One of my favorite things to order when I'm here.

Check out their menu here.

Chicken or the Egg - Playa Vista

Chicken or the Egg - Playa Vista

Have you been to Playa Vista? It's almost like the pretty step sister to Culver City. The area is a newer development with tons of new condos/townhomes and big businesses like Google, Youtube and Fox. I came through this area when stopping by "Chicken or the Egg" and I am definitely glad I did because now, this neighborhood is going to be one of my few weekend stops.

Going back to Chicken or the Egg, like the neighborhood, this restaurant is also new in town. Their chef and partner, Hunter Pritchett, was also involved with a few known restaurants of Los Angeles, Song of a Gun and Mendocino Farms. At CoE, they take high importance of the quality of the chicken they use. From their menu, they are proud to use Pitman Farms Marys Organic Free-Range chicken and noted that it is the highest quality chicken in the world. The eggs used are also sourced locally from Chino Valley Ranch just east of Oxnard. They are organic cage-free vegetarian fed. Their chickens are also gluten free.

Here is a glimpse of their menu:

They have an awesome soft drink selections. From soda pops or ice teas and lemonade for you to customize your drinks like this arnold palmer.

TLT Food - Pasadena

A good foodie colleague of mine recommended this place that just opened not too long ago. Even though I work in Pasadena, surrounded my tons of restaurants, it's still hard to find a place to eat around here. After having dinner at TLT, it definitely felt like a breath of fresh air. There's a lot of variety on their menu with playful ingredients. I didn't find their menu to be boring, but unique to their offerings. TLT used to be a food truck. Like all ambitious entrepreneurs, only a few make it to open a brick and mortar.

Tamara getting her Monday drink on.

Shishito Peppers

Cali Ceviche - Cauliflower, Avocado, Lime, Red Onion, Cilantro, Jalapeño, Corn Tortilla Chips. Additional charge to add tuna.

Ahi Tuna Tostada - Tostada with Sushi Grade Ahi, Garlic Ginger Dressing, Pickled Veggies, Avocado, Lime, Cilantro, Iceberg & Sesame Seeds

Beet Salad - Pickled Golden Beets, Roasted Red Beets, Arugula, Mint, Spiced Candied Almonds & Whipped Goat Cheese

Pee Wee Potatoes - Cheese Sauce, Chimichurri, Scallions (these were freaking GOOD)

Blue Crab Grilled Cheese - Blue Crab, Cheese Blend, Scallions, Jalapeños, Sambal, Grilled Sourdough. No Substitutions (For $12, this was worth it.)

Amazing Chimmi Wings - Tossed in Chimichurri & Topped with Chipotle-Honey Aioli. Green Apple & Lime Garnish. 6 Wings total. These were one of the best wings I've had! Not comparing them to your typical bar wings or game day wings, but the flavor of these are so different than anything I've ever had. Must order. The lime does wonders to this as well.

I'm counting on them to stay open, so check them out.

Pata Salada

Pata Salada

Met my friend Bernadette for dinner at Pata Salada a few nights ago. It's always an exciting experience to eat together. Mainly because I try to force her to have a drink or two (or 5) with me.

Pata Salada prides in their seafood creations and dishes from the region Jalisco. With heavy emphasis on the region the food came from, they also have a big focus on the Tequila as well. Their tequila comes from 100% blue agave made in and around Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. They not just carry 10 different tequilas, which is considerably a lot for a restaurant, but have over 70. Over 70 Tequilas to drink from. You can't tell me you can walk into a place that carry that many let alone 20. We were very pleased to taste a few of their starred dishes, tequilas, as well as a few new items they launched this week.

Tequila Cart

Our super sweet server being extremely patient as we snapped a few.

The tequila flight comes with 3 - 1oz pours.

Pacific Snapper Crudo

Pacific Snapper Crudo

I was relieved to taste different flavors in a crudo. This one in particular had their fish in a "Leche de tigre" or tiger's milk, which is a Peruvian term for the citrus-based marinade that cures the seafood in a ceviche. The crudo is dressed with avocados, sweet cherry tomatoes, avocado and basil.

Traditional Bass Ceviche

Traditional Bass Ceviche

The ceviche was packed in a cocktail glass mix with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, chili and lime. The ceviche was served with a side of blue corn chips.

Guacamole

Guacamole

Generous portions of guacamole mixed with pepitas, cherry tomatoes and ques fresco.

New Item - Iron Skillet Roasted Mussels

New Item - Iron Skillet Roasted Mussels

There is nothing I love more than the flavors of charred shellfish. These mussels are served LuLu style with chile lime butter. Mussels are served table top on a hot skillet so be careful.

New Item - Molten Quesadilla

New Item - Molten Quesadilla

Fried quesadilla stuffed with oaxaca cheese, mushrooms and huitlacoche.

Break for cocktails

Break for cocktails

2 sizeable drinks to have while we snack on our appetizers before the entrees. The blood orange one is their El Picante de Mango. Made with El Tesoro Reposado, Mango, chipotle and lime. Extremely delicious and I would even order this virgin for a nice sunny brunch. The lighter one, I believe, is their El Relajado. El Jimador Blanco with combier, agave and lime. Both super refreshing to have.

Pork Shank Carnitas

Pork Shank Carnitas

This pork shank was brined for 2 days before they slow cooked, then fried. Served on top of a chile morita orange salsa with rice and beans, and blue corn tortilla. This $59.95 handsome hunk will feed 2 or more. Depending on how many other dishes you order, I recommend ordering this with a bigger group of 4+ so you can try other items.

Whole Sea Bass

Whole Sea Bass

Their whole seabass was cooked with huacho salt, garlic chili lime butter with more garlic on top. Grilled lemons are served for a smokier citrus flavor. Rice, beans and blue corn tortillas are served.

Kahlua and Coffee Raspado is what we needed to pick us up from a night of feasting. Frozen coffee shaved like granita then topped with some creamy parfait. No complaints there.

Must come back for more tequila.

Anko - Koreatown Los Angeles

My friend Bernadette (@eatlikeabosslady) took us here one night after dinner. Boy am I happy that she did. Shaved ice is not in my wheel house. I haven't tried enough to know what's the best, but I can tell you what I tried here at Anko was delicious.

It was fairly empty when we arrived, but it got packed within an hour or so. I've heard that they changed ownership, but changed the name and the items on the menu. I've also heard that it's better than it was before which is a good thing. We ordered 2 shaved ice to share between 4, and after having a large meal, it was enough.

This is the black sesame Anko. Shaved tiny ice, with black sesame drizzle, red beans, pine nuts and injeolmi (rice cake). It's served with more red beans on the side with condensed milk. As you dig into this beautiful globe, you will find almonds and more black sesame layered within. It was sweet, refreshing, and very tasty. I love black sesame. It was toasty like how black sesame should be. It wasn't overly sweet. I highly recommend this to you if you are a huge fan of black sesame or just want to try something different.

Strawberry shaved ice. Simple, shaved ice topped with strawberry syrup and more strawberries. Very refreshing and delicious as well. It was hard to jump between the 2 because both were spot on.
